After more than 30 years in public education, Ms. Mathis will be retiring at the end of this school year. Her journey began in 1993 as an elementary school teacher, where she developed a strong foundation in instructional practice and classroom management. For over a decade, she worked with students in early grades, consistently maintaining high expectations and a clear structure that supported academic learning.
In 2006, she earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from New Mexico Highlands University, a milestone that marked the beginning of her path in school administration. Her leadership roles have included positions at both the elementary and high school levels.
LaTricia joined The New America School – New Mexico as a school administrator in 2009. Over the past 16 years, she has provided consistent and focused leadership during periods of change and challenge, contributing to the school’s operational stability and overseeing key compliance, accountability, and performance efforts. Her deep knowledge of school systems and policies has played a significant role in maintaining alignment with district and state requirements.
Throughout her tenure, LaTricia demonstrated a commitment to structure, consistency, and high standards. She approached her work with professionalism and a deep understanding of school systems while consistently prioritizing the work required to keep the school running effectively and in alignment with its mission.
As she transitions into retirement, we extend our appreciation for her years of service and wish her the best in the next phase of life. Her impact on the structure and function of our school will be remembered as we continue to build on the foundation she helped to establish.
Please join us in congratulating LaTricia Mathis on her well-earned retirement. We thank her for 16 incredible years of service to NAS-NM, and over 30 years of impact in the field of education. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her influence will remain a lasting part of our school’s story.
